In 2024, Vietnam retains its position as the top destination for budget-conscious expatriates, according to a comprehensive study by InterNations. This marks the fourth consecutive year that Vietnam has led the rankings, solidifying its appeal among expats seeking affordable living abroad.

Study Overview

InterNations surveyed over 12,000 expats across 174 countries and regions, focusing on criteria such as cost of living, financial satisfaction, and disposable income. The study encompassed 53 global locations, evaluating factors like quality of life, digital access, housing affordability, language barriers, job opportunities, income levels, and job security.

Key Findings

Vietnam, alongside expat-friendly countries like Colombia and Indonesia, excelled in several key areas:

  1. Housing: Vietnam ranked second globally, lauded for its accessibility to inexpensive housing options.
  2. Work-Life Balance: Only 46% of expats in Vietnam work full-time, contrasting with the global average of 57%, highlighting a more relaxed professional lifestyle.
  3. Stress Levels: Many expats reported significantly lower stress levels compared to their home countries, attributing this to the country’s relaxed atmosphere.

These factors combine to make Vietnam highly attractive to expats seeking a high quality of life at a lower cost.
