The chatbot is now accessible on platforms like WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger, and Facebook, as well as on the Meta.AI website. This launch follows the general elections and expands the chatbot’s availability beyond the initial limited release in select countries.
Functionality and Accessibility
Meta AI offers a range of features comparable to other leading chatbots such as ChatGPT, Google’s Gemini, and Anthropic’s Claude. Users can utilize it for various tasks including writing summaries, planning workouts, generating cooking ideas, and composing emails. On Instagram, it can suggest related Reels, and on Facebook, it interacts based on the user’s feed content.
Unique Features and Cultural Sensitivity
During testing, Meta AI demonstrated some biases in image generation, often depicting Indian men with turbans and creating stereotypical Indian settings. Meta acknowledges these issues and continues to improve and update the model to address such biases.
Privacy and Interaction
Meta ensures that the AI chatbot does not retain information from previous group conversations beyond the current interaction, thereby protecting user privacy. Although the Meta AI feature cannot be completely disabled, users can opt not to use the chatbot during searches. Given India’s large market of 500 million WhatsApp users, this rollout aims to reach a wide audience. Integrating the AI into group chats enhances its utility by assisting with tasks like planning trips and selecting movies. However, the chatbot can only understand the context of the text during active interactions.
