This achievement marked her second consecutive Commonwealth Games medal after winning silver at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games. Her latest success also continued India’s impressive run in weightlifting, one of the country’s strongest sports at the Games.

Another Medal for India

Bindyarani Devi once again proved why she is one of India’s leading weightlifters.

She completed the competition with a total lift of 199kg, which included:

  • Snatch: 87kg
  • Clean and Jerk: 112kg

Her consistent lifting helped India increase its medal tally while strengthening the country’s excellent performance in weightlifting during the Glasgow Games.

The medal also reflected her experience and ability to perform under pressure on the international stage.

Strong Performance in the Snatch

The competition began with the snatch event.

Bindyarani Bronze

Before the contest started, her coaching team decided to reduce her opening attempt from 85kg to 83kg.

The decision proved successful.

Bindyarani comfortably completed:

  • 83kg
  • 85kg
  • 87kg

At the end of the snatch event, she was tied on 87kg with Eliza Pratt of England.

However, Bindyarani stayed ahead through the countback rule, which rewards athletes who achieve the weight with fewer failed attempts.

Dramatic Clean and Jerk Event

The clean and jerk competition brought one of the most dramatic moments of the event.

Bindyarani’s opening lift of 110kg was initially declared successful.

However, after a jury review, officials overturned the decision because of an elbow movement during the lift.

Despite the disappointment, she remained calm and quickly recovered.

She successfully lifted:

  • 110kg
  • 112kg

These successful attempts gave her a final total of 199kg, enough to secure the bronze medal.

She also attempted 116kg in search of a personal best but was unable to complete the lift.

Strong International Competition

The women’s 58kg competition featured several top international weightlifters.

The medal winners were:

  • Gold: Rafiatu Folashade Lawal (Nigeria)- 229kg (Games Record)
  • Silver: Ann Sophie Taschereau (Canada) – 215kg
  • Bronze: Bindyarani Devi (India) – 199kg

Although the competition was highly competitive, Bindyarani remained focused and delivered another medal-winning performance for India.

Remarkable Comeback

The bronze medal carries special importance because Bindyarani had previously faced a difficult period in her career.

In 2023, she recovered from a knee injury, which affected her training and competition schedule.

She also successfully adapted after moving from the 55kg category to the 58kg category.

Changing weight categories requires athletes to adjust their training, strength, and body conditioning.

Her ability to overcome these challenges demonstrates her determination and resilience.

Continuing an Outstanding Career

Bindyarani has represented India successfully at several major international competitions.

Her achievements include:

  • Silver Medal – Commonwealth Games 2022
  • Bronze Medal – Commonwealth Games 2026
  • Medals at international weightlifting championships
  • Multiple national-level victories

Her consistency over the years has made her one of India’s most reliable weightlifters.

India’s Strong Weightlifting Campaign

Weightlifting has once again become one of India’s best-performing sports at the Commonwealth Games.

Several Indian lifters have reached the podium in Glasgow, including:

  • Mirabai Chanu – Gold
  • Gyaneshwari Yadav – Silver
  • Muthupandi Raja – Silver
  • Rishikanta Singh – Silver
  • Jhandu Kumar – Bronze
  • Bindyarani Devi – Bronze

These results reflect the growing strength of Indian weightlifting and the excellent preparation of the national team.

Such recognition highlights the importance of athletes who consistently represent the country with distinction at international competitions.

Weightlifting Continues to Grow in India

Indian weightlifting has shown remarkable progress over the past decade.

Better coaching, scientific training methods, improved sports infrastructure, and international exposure have helped athletes compete successfully against the world’s best.

Young lifters across the country continue to benefit from improved facilities and greater opportunities to participate in international events.

The continued success of athletes like Bindyarani Devi inspires the next generation of Indian weightlifters.

The Bindyarani Bronze achievement at the Commonwealth Games 2026 is another proud moment for Indian sports. By winning her second consecutive Commonwealth Games medal after overcoming injury and adapting to a new weight category, Bindyarani Devi has once again demonstrated her determination, consistency, and world-class ability while contributing to India’s outstanding weightlifting campaign in Glasgow.
