The decision was taken during the World Athletics Council meeting held in Torun, Poland. This achievement highlights India’s growing recognition in international athletics.
The president of Athletics Federation of India, Bahadur Singh Sagoo, called it a proud milestone that reflects India’s improving sports infrastructure and global standing.

Venue in Bhubaneswar
The championship will take place at the modern indoor facility inside the Kalinga Stadium located in Bhubaneswar, Odisha.
Kalinga Stadium has become one of India’s top sports hubs. It has already hosted several national and international events, making it a suitable venue for a world-class competition.
About the Championship
The World Indoor Athletics Championships is a major global event organised by World Athletics. It includes 26 events 13 for men and 13 for women and takes place over three days.
The 2026 edition, held in Torun, will introduce the 4×400 metres mixed relay for the first time, adding more excitement to the competition.
