Earlier Special Assistance in 2026

In February 2026, beneficiaries received an advance Bohag Bihu package of ₹8,000. The package included ₹5,000 covering the January-April allowance and an additional ₹3,000 as a special Bihu gift.

The special payment was linked to Bohag Bihu, the Assamese New Year festival celebrated in April. The advance assistance was intended to provide financial support to beneficiaries ahead of the festival.

Special Payment for Flood-Affected Districts

In July 2026, beneficiaries in four districts — Sivasagar, Charaideo, Jorhat and Golaghat — received enhanced assistance of ₹2,500.

The higher payment was linked to special support for areas affected by floods. Assam regularly faces seasonal flooding, which can affect homes, agriculture, transport and household incomes.

The special assistance in these districts was therefore part of the state’s response to the situation faced by affected families.

Festival-Based Support Under Orunodoi

The latest ₹1,500 payment shows how the Orunodoi Scheme is also being used for special festival-linked assistance.

On 24 September 2026, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that similar special assistance could be considered around Bohag Bihu in the future.

Bohag Bihu is one of Assam’s most important festivals and marks the beginning of the Assamese New Year. It is celebrated in April with traditional food, music, dance and community activities.

If similar support is provided in the future, beneficiaries could receive additional financial assistance during another important festival period.

Direct Benefit Transfer for Women

A major feature of the Orunodoi Scheme is its direct benefit transfer system. Financial assistance is transferred directly to the accounts of eligible beneficiaries.
