Para Archery: India Wins Three Medals
Para Archery saw India secure two gold medals and one silver on September 8, 2026, during the penultimate day of the World Archery Para Series Stage III in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. Indian archers produced strong performances in the compound, recurve and mixed-team events as the home event moved towards its final day.
The medals added to India’s growing success at the Ahmedabad stage of the international competition. The event has brought para archers from several countries to India and is being held under the international rules of World Archery.
India Wins Two Gold Medals
Para Archery produced two gold medals for India in men’s team events. The Indian men’s compound team of Toman Kumar and Shyam Sunder Swami defeated Iraq’s Abbas Kadhim and Anwer Aldawod by 152-139 to take the gold medal.
The Indian team maintained a strong score throughout the match and finished with a clear advantage over its Iraqi opponents. The victory added another major result for India’s compound archers at the Ahmedabad competition.
India also won gold in the men’s recurve team event. Harvinder Singh and Vijay Sundi defeated Slovakia’s David Ivan and Denis Ivan 6-2 in the final.
The result was another strong performance by the Indian team and gave the country its second gold medal of the day.

Women’s Recurve Team Wins Silver
India’s women also reached the final of the recurve team competition. Bhawna and Pooja faced a strong Chinese team in the gold-medal match.
The Indian pair lost the final 0-6 and finished with the silver medal. Although they could not win the title, reaching the final added another podium finish to India’s performance at the Ahmedabad stage.
The result also showed the growing depth of India’s para archery teams, with Indian athletes competing strongly across both men’s and women’s events.
Mixed Team W1 Event
Another Indian pair, Swati Chaudhary and Adil Mohamed Nazir Ansari, won silver in the Mixed Team W1 event. The W1 category is designed for athletes with impairments affecting both the upper and lower limbs.
Mixed-team events bring together one male and one female athlete from the same country. They require athletes to work closely together and maintain consistency across their individual shots.
Swati Chaudhary also competed in the individual W1 category. She won a bronze medal after defeating Elena Krutova 6-2, adding another podium finish to her campaign.
Strong Results Across Para Archery Events
The Indian performance at the Para Archery event was not limited to the medals won on September 8. Indian athletes had already produced notable results in other categories during the Ahmedabad competition.
In the women’s compound team event, Sheetal Devi and Payal Nag were part of the Indian team that competed for a bronze medal. However, the team lost the bronze-medal playoff against China.
The visually impaired events also brought medals for India on September 7. Tanvi Pravin Ingale won silver in the Visually Impaired 1 category, while Yugal Garg secured bronze after defeating Pawan Kumar.
These results have helped India build a strong medal tally at its home World Archery Para Series stage.
World Archery Para Series in Ahmedabad
The Ahmedabad competition is Stage III of the 2026 World Archery Para Series. India is hosting the event for the first time, with the competition taking place at the Sabarmati Riverfront.
The series provides para archers with an international platform to compete across different bow and classification categories. The Ahmedabad stage includes compound, recurve, W1 and visually impaired events.
Hosting an international para sporting event in India also provides domestic athletes with the opportunity to compete at a high level without travelling abroad. It gives local audiences greater exposure to para archery and its athletes.
Harvinder Singh Leads Recurve Success
Harvinder Singh was part of India’s gold-winning men’s recurve team alongside Vijay Sundi. His success adds to his established record in international para archery.
India has invested increasing attention in para sports in recent years, with athletes competing successfully at the Paralympic Games, world championships and international circuits.
The performances of experienced archers such as Harvinder Singh, alongside younger competitors in the Indian squad, highlight the wider development of para archery in the country.

India’s Growing Para Sports Presence
The success at the Para Archery event comes during a period of increased attention on India’s para sports programme. Indian athletes have achieved strong results in several disciplines at international competitions.
Hosting the World Archery Para Series in Ahmedabad provides another opportunity to develop the sport domestically. It allows Indian archers to gain experience in major international competitions while also helping organisers build expertise in hosting global para sporting events.
With the final day of the Ahmedabad stage approaching, Indian archers have already secured medals across team, mixed-team and individual competitions, including two gold medals, silver medals and a bronze in the events held on September 8.
