Agni-1 Missile Test India: Successful Launch from Odisha
India successfully carried out the Agni-1 Missile Test India on 22 May 2026 from the Integrated Test Range at Chandipur in Odisha. The missile launch was conducted under the supervision of the Strategic Forces Command, which is responsible for managing India’s strategic nuclear weapons system.
The successful test once again showed the strength of India’s defence technology and missile capabilities.
Agni-1 Missile Successfully Tested
Agni-1 is a short-range ballistic missile developed as part of India’s Agni missile programme. It is designed for both conventional and nuclear missions. The missile can strike targets at a range of around 700 to 900 kilometres.
The latest Agni-1 Missile Test India confirmed that the missile performed accurately and met all operational and technical requirements during the flight trial.
Key Features of Agni-1 Missile
Agni-1 is a single-stage missile that uses solid fuel technology. It is also road-mobile, which allows it to be moved and launched from different locations when needed.
Some important features of Agni-1 include:
- Strike range of 700-900 km
- Can carry payloads up to 1,000 kg
- Capable of carrying conventional and nuclear warheads
- Uses solid fuel for quick launch readiness
- Road-mobile missile system
These features make Agni-1 an important part of India’s strategic defence system.

Test Conducted from Chandipur, Odisha
The missile was launched from the Integrated Test Range at Chandipur in Odisha. This facility is one of India’s major missile testing centres and is used for testing several advanced defence systems.
India regularly conducts missile trials from this range to improve operational readiness and defence capability.
Role of Strategic Forces Command
The Strategic Forces Command supervised the Agni-1 Missile Test India. It is a tri-service command of the Indian Armed Forces and manages the country’s strategic nuclear arsenal.
The command plays a major role in maintaining India’s nuclear deterrence and strategic preparedness.
India Expands Missile Capability
Earlier in May 2026, India also tested an advanced Agni missile equipped with Multiple Independently Targetable Re-Entry Vehicle (MIRV) technology from Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Island in Odisha.
The successful Agni-1 Missile Test India further strengthens India’s defence system and demonstrates continuous progress in missile development technology.
