INS Nireekshak Sri Lanka Visit boosts India Sri Lanka naval ties with training, diving exercise and humanitarian support

The Sri Lankan Navy welcomed the vessel with traditional naval customs. The visit includes diving exercises, humanitarian assistance, and defence cooperation activities, showing the strategic importance of India-Sri Lanka maritime relations.

Role of INS Nireekshak

INS Nireekshak is a diving support and submarine rescue vessel of the Indian Navy. It plays a key role in underwater operations, salvage missions, submarine rescue support, and specialised diving tasks.

The ship is commanded by Sailesh Kumar Tyagi. During this visit, the vessel is conducting training programmes with diving professionals of the Sri Lanka Navy. The focus is on improving coordination and operational readiness between the two naval forces.

4th India-Sri Lanka Joint Diving Exercise

INS Nireekshak is taking part in the 4th India-Sri Lanka Joint Diving Exercise held from April 21 to April 27. The exercise involves diving teams from both countries performing specialised underwater operations and professional training.

The main goal is to improve teamwork, interoperability, and exchange of best practices in diving and rescue missions. Such exercises are important for disaster response, maritime rescue, and underwater security operations.

Humanitarian and Defence Support

As part of India’s humanitarian outreach, INS Nireekshak will hand over two BHISM cubes under the “Aarogya Maitri” initiative. These portable medical units provide quick emergency healthcare support during disasters.

In addition, the Indian Navy will supply 50,000 rounds of 9 mm ammunition to the Sri Lanka Navy. This move further strengthens defence cooperation and operational preparedness between the two countries.
