Leadership Changes in Ladakh Administration

Kavinder Gupta had taken office as the third Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh in July 2025. His appointment came after the tenure of Brigadier BD Mishra, who had assumed charge in February 2024. Before Mishra, RK Mathur served as the first Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh following the reorganisation of the former state of Jammu and Kashmir in 2019.

Ladakh became a separate Union Territory without a legislative assembly after the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019 came into effect. Since then, the region has been governed by a Lieutenant Governor appointed by the President of India. The role of the Lieutenant Governor is crucial in managing governance, administration, and development in the strategically important Himalayan region.
