AyurVarta Series Begins at AIIA
AyurVarta Series has been launched by the All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA), New Delhi, to create a digital space for conversations about Ayurveda and its growing role in modern healthcare and wellness. AIIA introduced the new digital dialogue series on 1 September 2026, ahead of the 11th Ayurveda Day, which will be observed on 23 September.
The initiative aims to bring authentic information about Ayurveda to a wider audience. It will combine traditional knowledge with scientific discussion and explore how Ayurvedic ideas can be understood and applied in the present day.
AIIA Introduces AyurVarta
The All India Institute of Ayurveda is an autonomous organisation under the Ministry of Ayush. It works in the areas of Ayurveda education, healthcare, research and related activities. Through AyurVarta, the institute plans to create regular digital discussions on different aspects of Ayurveda. The platform is intended to make information easier to access for people in India as well as audiences outside the country. The series will focus on Ayurveda’s traditional knowledge while also discussing scientific perspectives and contemporary applications. This approach is important as interest in traditional healthcare systems continues to grow both in India and internationally. Rather than presenting Ayurveda only through historical references, the programme is expected to encourage conversations about its relevance in today’s world.

AyurVarta Comes Ahead of Ayurveda Day
The launch of the AyurVarta Series has been timed ahead of Ayurveda Day, which will be celebrated on 23 September 2026. Ayurveda Day is an annual observance in India that aims to create greater awareness about Ayurveda and its contribution to health and wellness. The government earlier observed the day according to Dhanvantari Jayanti, but 23 September was later fixed as the annual date. The date also has a connection with the Autumnal Equinox, an astronomical event around which day and night are nearly equal in length in many parts of the world. This connection has been used to highlight the traditional Ayurvedic idea of balance between the body, mind and environment.
Theme of the First Episode
The first episode of AyurVarta focused on a basic but important question: “Why is Ayurveda Day celebrated on 23 September?” The inaugural conversation featured Professor (Vaidya) P. K. Prajapati, Director of AIIA, and Professor (Dr.) Mahesh Vyas, Dean (Ph.D.) of the institute. The discussion looked at the significance of Ayurveda Day and the reason behind the selection of 23 September as the fixed date. Starting the series with this topic provides an introduction to the purpose and background of the annual observance while also explaining the broader ideas connected with Ayurveda.
What Is Ayurveda?
Ayurveda is a traditional Indian system of medicine with roots in ancient Indian medical literature. The word Ayurveda is commonly understood as relating to knowledge or science of life. The system places importance on maintaining balance in different aspects of life. Traditional Ayurvedic thinking considers the relationship between the body, mind, surroundings, food, lifestyle and overall well-being. In modern times, Ayurveda is used in areas such as wellness, preventive health practices and traditional therapies. At the same time, scientific research is increasingly being used to study traditional practices and understand their possible applications. The AyurVarta platform is designed to provide a space where such subjects can be discussed in a structured manner.
Traditional Knowledge Meets Digital Communication
One of the notable aspects of AyurVarta is its digital format. Digital platforms allow information to reach people beyond the physical boundaries of an institution. For an organisation such as AIIA, this can provide an opportunity to communicate research, traditional knowledge and expert discussions to a much larger audience. People can also access digital discussions at a convenient time instead of depending only on physical events or classroom-based programmes. The initiative reflects a wider trend in which traditional knowledge and modern digital technologies are being brought together. Online lectures, expert discussions, digital libraries and educational videos are increasingly used to share information about India’s traditional systems.
Focus on Authentic Information
The AyurVarta Series is intended to promote authentic knowledge about Ayurveda. This is important because information about traditional medicine and wellness is widely available online, but its quality can vary considerably. Expert-led discussions can help audiences understand traditional concepts in their proper context. They can also provide an opportunity to discuss contemporary research and explain where scientific evidence is available and where further research is needed. A balanced approach can help people understand Ayurveda without mixing traditional concepts with unsupported claims. The involvement of specialists from AIIA gives the series an institutional platform for discussing these subjects.
Ayurveda and Global Interest
Interest in traditional systems of health has increased in many parts of the world. Yoga and Ayurveda have become more visible internationally, while India has also been working to promote its traditional systems through institutional and international initiatives. Digital programmes such as AyurVarta can support this wider outreach by making expert conversations available to audiences outside India. The use of English and other accessible digital communication formats can also help introduce Ayurveda-related concepts to younger audiences and people who may not have previously studied the subject.
Importance of Ayurveda Day
Ayurveda Day provides an annual opportunity to discuss the role of Ayurveda and create awareness about India’s traditional health system. The decision to observe the day on a fixed date of 23 September provides a consistent annual occasion for programmes, discussions and public activities. The date’s association with the Autumnal Equinox also provides a symbolic connection with the concept of balance. In Ayurveda, balance is an important idea linked to overall well-being and harmony between different aspects of life. The AyurVarta launch ahead of the 11th Ayurveda Day therefore combines the annual observance with a new digital communication initiative.

AIIA and the Ministry of Ayush
AIIA operates under the Ministry of Ayush, the Union ministry responsible for policy and development related to traditional systems such as Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy. The institute contributes to Ayurveda education, clinical services and research. Its digital initiatives can help extend access to information beyond its campus. With the launch of AyurVarta, AIIA is using a digital discussion format to connect experts and audiences around topics related to Ayurveda.
Digital Outreach of Traditional Healthcare
The launch also shows how traditional knowledge is increasingly being communicated through modern platforms. Digital media can make expert discussions available to students, researchers, healthcare professionals and members of the public across different regions. As technology continues to influence healthcare communication, digital platforms can play a role in making reliable information easier to find.
The AyurVarta Series begins with a discussion on the significance of Ayurveda Day, but its broader purpose is to encourage informed conversations about Ayurveda, its traditional foundations, scientific perspectives and possible applications in contemporary life. With the 11th Ayurveda Day approaching on 23 September 2026, the series provides a new digital platform for AIIA to engage audiences in India and around the world.
