The swearing-in ceremony is scheduled at 11:40 AM on 12 May 2026 at the Veterinary College Field in Khanapara, Guwahati. Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya officially appointed Himanta Biswa Sarma as the Chief Minister on 10 May 2026 after he submitted the claim to form the government with the support of 102 MLAs.
Several top national leaders are expected to attend the event, including Narendra Modi, Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, and Nitin Nabin.
Assam Legislative Assembly and Majority Mark
The Assam Legislative Assembly is a unicameral legislature with 126 elected members. To form the government, a political party or alliance must secure at least 64 seats for a simple majority.
The National Democratic Alliance achieved a major victory by winning 102 seats in the assembly elections. This strong result helped the alliance comfortably return to power in Assam.
