Overview of PM e-Drive Scheme

The PM E-DRIVE (Electric Drive Revolution in Innovative Vehicle Enhancement) scheme was launched in October 2024 and became active from 1 October 2024. It is a major initiative to increase the use of electric vehicles, improve charging infrastructure, and support domestic EV manufacturing. The scheme mainly aims to reduce the cost of electric vehicles and make them more affordable for the public.

Key Objectives of PM e-Drive EV Subsidy Extension

The scheme focuses on faster adoption of electric mobility by providing incentives for different types of EVs. These include electric two-wheelers, three-wheelers, e-ambulances, and e-trucks. It also supports the purchase of electric buses and development of charging stations across cities.

Another important goal is to strengthen EV infrastructure and create awareness among people about clean energy transport. This helps in building a sustainable and eco-friendly transport system.

Implementation and Monitoring

The scheme is managed by the Project Implementation and Sanctioning Committee (PISC), which is led by the Ministry of Heavy Industries. This committee ensures proper execution of the scheme and makes necessary changes when required.

State governments are also encouraged to support the initiative by offering benefits like road tax reduction, lower toll charges, and parking incentives for EV users.

Impact on Sustainable Mobility

The PM e-Drive EV Subsidy Extension is expected to increase the use of electric vehicles, especially in last-mile transport such as two-wheelers and rickshaws. It will help reduce pollution levels, cut fuel imports, and support green mobility in urban areas.

The move also supports climate goals by promoting clean energy and boosting innovation in the EV sector. It will encourage local manufacturing and create new opportunities in the electric vehicle industry.
