APEDA Basmati Centre Pilibhit to Boost Farmers and Exports
APEDA Basmati Centre Pilibhit marks a major step in strengthening India’s basmati and organic farming sector. The Agriculture and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority will set up a modern training centre and demonstration farm in Pilibhit district of Uttar Pradesh. The project has gained momentum after 7 acres of land were transferred at the government agriculture farm in Tanda Bijesi village. With an investment of around Rs 15 crore, the centre aims to improve farming quality and export readiness.

The centre will provide training in premium basmati rice cultivation, seed production and organic farming methods. Farmers will also learn about export standards and quality control. This will help them grow high-value crops and earn better income. The initiative is expected to support farmers not only in Pilibhit but also in nearby districts and states.
AI-Based Satellite Survey for Crop Mapping
A key feature of the APEDA Basmati Centre Pilibhit is the use of artificial intelligence for satellite-based crop surveys. This system will help map basmati cultivation areas and identify different rice varieties. It will also provide accurate production data, which is useful for export planning. The technology will improve quality checks and ensure better traceability in the export chain.

Modern Facilities at the Centre
The training centre will include a seed unit, an auditorium and a museum showcasing 45 basmati rice varieties. It will also have an NABL-accredited laboratory for testing DNA, pesticide residues and heavy metals. These facilities will help maintain international quality standards, especially for countries with strict food safety rules.
Role in Regional Development
The APEDA Basmati Centre Pilibhit will work under the Basmati Export Development Foundation and become the second such centre in Uttar Pradesh after Meerut. It aims to train more than 50,000 farmers by 2025–26 across several basmati-growing states. Farmers from Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Delhi will benefit from this centre, making it an important regional hub.
Strengthening Agricultural Exports
This project reflects India’s focus on modernising agriculture through technology, training and quality testing. By improving farming practices and export standards, the APEDA Basmati Centre Pilibhit will help increase farmer income and strengthen India’s position in global basmati markets.
