Ashwini Bhide BMC Commissioner Career Journey

A 1995-batch officer of the Indian Administrative Service, Ashwini Bhide has built a strong and respected career. She started her service in Kolhapur and later worked as Chief Executive Officer in Nagpur and Sindhudurg zilla parishads.

She has also served at Raj Bhavan and worked as additional commissioner at the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority. Her experience within the BMC itself adds strong administrative understanding to her new role.

Role in Chief Minister’s Office

Before becoming commissioner, Bhide served as Additional Chief Secretary in the Chief Minister’s Office of Maharashtra. She handled many complex and important tasks with efficiency. Her ability to manage large government projects and policy matters has made her a trusted and capable officer.

Metro Leadership and Key Achievements

Ashwini Bhide is widely known as the “Metro Woman of Mumbai” for her leadership in the Mumbai Metro Line 3 project. This underground metro line connects Colaba to SEEPZ and is a major step in improving Mumbai’s transport system.

The project faced many challenges, including tunnelling under heritage areas and handling land issues. The Aarey Colony car shed controversy also brought attention due to environmental concerns near Sanjay Gandhi National Park. Bhide managed these issues with careful planning and administration.
