GRSE Delivers Fifth Warship to Navy in 2025 – Anjadip Joins the Indian Navy Fleet

The Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW SWC) “Anjadip” has been formally handed over to the Indian Navy at Chennai Port. This vessel is the third in a series of eight planned ASW SWCs and represents a significant step in expanding India’s naval capabilities. Designed and built entirely in India by GRSE, “Anjadip” is the 115th warship constructed by the shipyard and the 77th delivered to the Indian Navy. The Eastern Naval Command officially accepted the vessel, strengthening India’s coastal defence and anti-submarine operations.

“Anjadip” has been specifically designed for operations in shallow coastal waters. Its primary missions include sub-surface surveillance, coordinated anti-submarine activities with aircraft, and search and attack operations. Equipped with lightweight torpedoes, anti-submarine warfare rockets, and advanced combat management systems, it enhances India’s maritime vigilance along strategic coastal zones.

GRSE Delivers Fifth Warship to Navy in 2025 – Achieving a Rare Delivery Milestone

Before “Anjadip”, GRSE delivered four other warships in 2025:

  • Himgiri – Advanced Guided Missile Frigate
  • Arnala – ASW SWC
  • Androth – ASW SWC
  • Ikshak – Survey Vessel (Large)

All four ships have already been commissioned into active service. Delivering five complex naval platforms in a single year is a rare feat for Indian shipyards and reflects GRSE’s enhanced project management, operational efficiency, and industrial capacity. Such consistent performance also strengthens India’s maritime defence readiness amid evolving security challenges.

GRSE Delivers Fifth Warship to Navy in 2025 – Focus on Atmanirbharta and Indigenous Capabilities

“Anjadip” exemplifies India’s push for Atmanirbharta (self-reliance) in defence production. Nearly 88% of the ship’s components are indigenously manufactured. The vessel features a 30 mm Naval Surface Gun produced by GRSE itself, highlighting the shipyard’s ability to integrate domestic systems into advanced warships.

This focus on local manufacturing reduces dependency on foreign suppliers and ensures quicker turnaround in maintenance, repairs, and upgrades. It also aligns with India’s broader national strategy of building self-sufficient defence infrastructure.

The ASW SWCs like “Anjadip” are designed for high operational efficiency in India’s coastal waters. Key features include:

  • Coastal and shallow-water surveillance capability
  • Coordinated anti-submarine operations with naval aircraft
  • Lightweight torpedoes and anti-submarine rockets for offensive operations
  • Advanced combat management systems for real-time monitoring and decision-making
  • High indigenous content supporting self-reliance

These ships are optimized to detect, track, and neutralize submarine threats in shallow waters, ensuring maritime security near India’s coastline.

GRSE continues to expand its naval production portfolio. Currently, the shipyard is building:

  • Two Project 17A advanced stealth frigates
  • Five additional ASW SWCs
  • One Survey Vessel (Large)
  • Four Next Generation Offshore Patrol Vessels

Additionally, GRSE is actively executing civilian and international orders, demonstrating the shipyard’s versatility and global reach. The company is also expected to conclude a contract for five next-generation corvettes within this financial year, reinforcing its position as a cornerstone of India’s maritime defence ecosystem.
