IAF Sarang Team arrives in Egypt

IAF Sarang Team arrives in Egypt for the El Alamein Airshow, showcasing Dhruv helicopters and precision aerial manoeuvres.

IAF Sarang Team arrived in Egypt on September 6, 2026, to take part in the second edition of the El Alamein International Airshow. The Indian Air Force helicopter display team will showcase its precision flying skills at the international aviation event, which is scheduled from September 8 to 10, 2026, at El Alamein International Airport.

The participation of the IAF Sarang Team gives India an opportunity to display its aviation skills and the capabilities of its indigenously manufactured Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) Dhruv) before an international audience.

IAF Sarang Team Reaches Egypt

The arrival of the IAF Sarang Team in Egypt marks an important part of India’s participation in the El Alamein International Airshow. The team reached the country on September 6, ahead of its scheduled aerial performances.

The Sarang team is known for its highly coordinated helicopter formations and precision manoeuvres. Its performances combine careful flying, teamwork and control of multiple helicopters at the same time.

The team will represent the Indian Air Force at one of the major aviation events being held in the region this year.

The Sarang Helicopter Display Team operates the Advanced Light Helicopter Dhruv, an Indian-designed and manufactured helicopter. The Dhruv is produced by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) and is used by India’s armed forces for a range of military and utility roles.

The helicopter has become an important part of India’s indigenous aerospace programme. Its use by the Sarang team also allows the IAF to demonstrate the aircraft’s handling and flying capabilities in front of international visitors.

The Sarang team is recognised as the world’s only five-helicopter display team. Its formation flying requires pilots to maintain accurate positions while performing demanding manoeuvres at controlled speeds and altitudes.

El Alamein International Airshow 2026

The El Alamein International Airshow is being held at El Alamein International Airport in Egypt. The 2026 event is the second edition of the international airshow.

The event brings together air forces, aircraft manufacturers, aerospace companies and defence industry representatives from different countries. It provides a platform for countries to display military aircraft, helicopters and aviation technologies.

Aerial displays are one of the major attractions of such events, allowing participating air forces to demonstrate flying skills and aircraft capabilities to large audiences.

The participation of the IAF Sarang Team adds an Indian helicopter display to the international programme.

Dolphin Leap and Spot Stall Turn

The Sarang team is scheduled to perform its well-known Dolphin Leap manoeuvre during the airshow. The team will also demonstrate a newer manoeuvre called the Spot Stall Turn.

These performances require close coordination between the pilots. When several helicopters fly together in a formation, even small changes in speed, direction or altitude need to be carefully managed.

The team’s displays are therefore based on precision and teamwork rather than simply flying at high speed. The pilots train extensively to maintain safe distances and accurate formations during public performances.

India’s Indigenous Helicopter Capability

The use of the ALH Dhruv by the Sarang team highlights India’s progress in developing and manufacturing helicopters within the country.

The Dhruv has been designed as a multirole helicopter and can be used for military as well as civilian and utility operations. Different versions of the helicopter have been developed for India’s defence and security requirements.

By flying the Dhruv at international airshows, the Sarang team also provides global audiences with an opportunity to see an Indian-built helicopter in a demanding display environment.

India-Egypt Defence Engagement

The Sarang team’s visit also comes in the broader context of India-Egypt defence and diplomatic relations. Defence cooperation between the two countries includes interaction between their armed forces and participation in military and aviation activities.

International airshows can provide opportunities for military personnel and aerospace organisations to interact, exchange information and observe aircraft and technologies from different countries.

India’s participation in the El Alamein event therefore has both an aviation and diplomatic dimension. The Sarang display places Indian Air Force flying skills and India’s indigenous helicopter technology before an international audience.

A Major Platform for Aviation Technology

The El Alamein International Airshow provides participating countries and companies with a platform to showcase developments in aviation and aerospace.

Modern airshows often include fighter aircraft, transport aircraft, helicopters, unmanned systems and other aerospace technologies. They also create opportunities for defence companies and aviation organisations to build international partnerships.

For India, the participation of the IAF Sarang Team adds a specialised helicopter display to the event and highlights the country’s growing presence in international aerospace activities.

Sarang’s Role in International Airshows

The Sarang Helicopter Display Team has represented the Indian Air Force at several international aviation events. Its performances are designed to demonstrate discipline, precision and coordination while showcasing the capabilities of the Dhruv helicopter.

The team’s five-helicopter formation makes its display distinctive. Maintaining a close formation with multiple helicopters requires strong communication between pilots and precise control throughout every manoeuvre.

At El Alamein, the team will bring these skills to an Egyptian audience and international aviation community. The planned Dolphin Leap and Spot Stall Turn are expected to be among the key elements of India’s aerial display during the event.

The September 8–10, 2026 airshow will bring together aviation participants from different countries, giving the IAF Sarang Team another international platform to showcase Indian aviation capability.
