World Knowledge Forum 2026

World Knowledge Forum 2026 opens in Seoul, focusing on AI, co-intelligence, quantum computing and global economic change.

World Knowledge Forum 2026 opened in Seoul, South Korea, on 8 September, bringing together political leaders, business executives, researchers and technology experts to discuss artificial intelligence, economic change and the future of human-machine cooperation. The 27th edition of the international conference is being held at Jangchung Arena and The Shilla Seoul and will continue until 10 September 2026.

World Knowledge Forum 2026 Opens in Seoul

The World Knowledge Forum is an annual international conference organised by Maekyung Media Group. It has become a major platform for discussions on technology, business, finance, global affairs and public policy. The 2026 event is being held under the theme “The Promethean Moment: Architecting the Co-Intelligence Order”.

Artificial Intelligence Takes Centre Stage

Artificial intelligence is one of the main topics at the World Knowledge Forum 2026. AI systems are increasingly being used for language processing, data analysis, automation, research and business decision-making.

The forum is looking beyond the simple idea of replacing human workers with machines. Instead, several sessions are examining how humans and AI can work together. This approach is often described as co-intelligence, where people use AI tools to improve productivity, creativity and decision-making.

The discussions are also connected to concerns about job changes, inequality and the social impact of new technology. As AI develops quickly, companies and governments are facing questions about skills, employment and responsible use.

Global Economy and Changing World Order

The World Knowledge Forum is also addressing major changes in the global economy. International trade, technological competition, national security and changing business models are becoming increasingly connected.

Businesses are investing heavily in AI infrastructure, advanced computing and digital services. At the same time, countries are working to strengthen their technology industries and reduce dependence on critical technologies from other regions.

The forum provides an opportunity for policymakers and business leaders to discuss these changes and consider how economies can adapt to a technology-driven future.

David Cameron Delivers Opening Keynote

Former British Prime Minister David Cameron delivered the opening keynote at the event. His address, titled “A New Order of Coexistence in the Age of AI”, focused on how societies may adapt to the growing influence of artificial intelligence.

South Korean National Assembly Speaker Cho Jeong-sik also spoke about the social challenges created by technological change. His discussion included concerns about job displacement and the possibility of people becoming increasingly disconnected in a technology-heavy society.

WKF founder Dr Chang Dae-whan discussed artificial intelligence and its possible influence on civilisation and the future direction of society.

Personal AI and Everyday Technology

One of the sessions at the forum is titled “Personal AI, Change Your Daily Life”. The session looks at the growing use of AI assistants and personalised digital tools.

Personal AI could increasingly help users organise information, communicate, plan tasks and access services. The development of smaller and more capable AI systems is also allowing these technologies to move beyond traditional computers and smartphones.

AI-powered glasses and augmented reality are another area receiving attention. XREAL CEO Xu discussed developments in AI glasses and extended-reality technology, highlighting the growing connection between wearable devices and artificial intelligence.

Quantum Computing and Cybersecurity

Quantum computing is another important technology discussed at the World Knowledge Forum. Unlike traditional computers, quantum computers use principles of quantum mechanics to process information in a different way.

The technology could eventually have major effects on areas such as scientific research, optimisation and cybersecurity. However, practical large-scale quantum computing is still developing, and researchers continue to work on technical challenges.

A dedicated session on quantum computing and cybersecurity reflects growing concerns about how future computing technologies could change digital security.

International Participants and Awards

The Seoul event has attracted participants from different parts of the world. Former Prime Minister of Denmark Helle Thorning-Schmidt joined the opening sessions, adding an international policy perspective to the discussions.

The forum also recognised business leaders through the ASEAN Entrepreneurs Award. Go Negosyo founder Jose Ma. Concepcion III and VinaCapital CEO Don Lam were among the recipients.

Samsung Electronics Vice President Yang Hye-soon participated in a session linked to emerging technology, while representatives from other technology and business organisations joined discussions about AI, digital transformation and future industries.

Focus on Human and Machine Cooperation

The idea of cooperation between humans and intelligent machines is one of the strongest themes running through the 2026 forum. Instead of treating AI only as an automation tool, speakers are exploring how it can support human skills.

This includes areas such as education, business, research, healthcare, communication and creative work. The discussions also highlight the need for responsible development so that technological progress is matched by attention to privacy, employment and social wellbeing.

With AI becoming a central part of the global technology race, the discussions in Seoul reflect the wider debate about how countries, companies and individuals can prepare for a rapidly changing digital environment.
