Ganesh produced a strong performance in the bronze-medal playoff, scoring 149 out of a possible 150 points. He hit 10s with 14 of his 15 arrows, helping him build a clear advantage over Cong Duc Dang.
The result gave Ganesh his second medal at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games. His first came on September 30, when he joined Sahil Jadhav and Kushal Dalal in India’s gold-medal winning men’s compound team. India defeated China 238-237 in a closely fought final.

Strong Run Through the Individual Event
Ganesh also had a consistent run in the individual competition. In the quarterfinal, he defeated Chinese Taipei’s Chen Chieh-Lun 148-138. Ganesh won all five ends in that match and maintained his lead throughout the contest.
He then faced South Korea’s Kim Jongho in the semifinal. Kim won the match 148-144 after taking an early lead. Ganesh reduced the gap during the third end, but Kim restored his advantage in the later stages and moved into the gold-medal match.
Ganesh responded strongly in the bronze-medal contest. His 149-point score was only one point short of a perfect 150, allowing him to finish third in the individual event.
India’s Strong Run in Compound Archery
The Ganesh Mani Ratnam bronze came after India had already secured three gold medals in compound archery at the 2026 Asian Games.
India’s women’s compound team of Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Prithika Pradeep and Chikitha Taniparthi won gold after defeating China 238-234. The Indian women’s team also matched the existing world record score of 238 in the final.
Chikitha Taniparthi and Sahil Jadhav then won gold in the mixed team event. India completed the gold-medal sweep in the three team compound events when Ganesh Mani Ratnam, Sahil Jadhav and Kushal Dalal defeated China in the men’s team final.
Ganesh’s individual bronze therefore took India’s compound archery medal total at the Games to four medals: three golds and one bronze.
What Is Compound Archery?
Compound archery uses a bow fitted with a system of cables and pulleys. This system reduces the force that an archer needs to hold at full draw and allows for precise aiming.
The sport is different from recurve archery, which is the bow type used in the Olympic Games. Compound archery has been part of the Asian Games programme and has become one of India’s strongest medal-producing disciplines at major continental competitions.
The Asian Games results in Aichi-Nagoya have again brought attention to India’s development in this discipline, with both experienced and younger archers contributing to the country’s medal tally.
Ganesh Adds a Second Asian Games Medal
For Ganesh Mani Ratnam, the individual bronze followed immediately after his men’s team gold. The 20-year-old archer was part of India’s successful men’s compound team alongside Sahil Jadhav and Kushal Dalal on September 30.
His team victory came in a closely contested final against China. India trailed during parts of the match but finished strongly to win 238-237. The result gave India its third gold medal in compound archery at these Games.

The following day, Ganesh returned to the competition for the individual knockout rounds. After defeating Chen in the quarterfinal and losing to Kim in the semifinal, he secured the bronze with a near-perfect score against Vietnam’s Cong Duc Dang.
India’s Compound Archery Campaign Ends With Four Medals
With Ganesh’s bronze, India’s compound archery campaign at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games ended with four medals. The three team events produced gold medals, while Ganesh’s individual performance added bronze.
The results also highlighted the depth of India’s compound archery squad. Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Chikitha Taniparthi, Prithika Pradeep, Sahil Jadhav, Kushal Dalal and Ganesh Mani Ratnam all contributed to the medal haul across the team and individual events.
The Asian Games continue in Japan until October 4, with Indian athletes competing across several sports as the country’s medal campaign moves into its final days.
