India NZ FTA April 27: Key Goals

The India NZ FTA April 27 aims to double trade between both nations to USD 5 billion within five years. It is also expected to bring around USD 20 billion in investment over the next 15 years. The agreement will be signed at Bharat Mandapam after discussions at the India-New Zealand Business Forum.

India NZ FTA April 27: Tariff Cuts and Trade Access

Under this deal, India will get zero-duty access for all its exports to New Zealand. In return, India will reduce or remove tariffs on about 95 percent of New Zealand’s exports. Products like wool, coal, wood, wine, avocados, and blueberries will benefit.

However, India has protected some sensitive sectors. Items such as dairy products, edible oils, sugar, onions, spices, and rubber are kept out of the agreement to support local farmers and industries.

India NZ FTA April 27: Services and Job Opportunities

The India NZ FTA April 27 also focuses on the services sector. It will create new chances for Indian professionals in fields like IT, travel, and business services.

New Zealand will offer a special visa pathway for skilled Indian workers. Up to 5,000 professionals can work there each year for up to three years. This will help increase workforce exchange and improve cooperation between the two nations.

Current Trade and Future Growth

At present, trade between India and New Zealand is limited. Merchandise trade stands at about USD 1.3 billion in 2024–25, while total trade in goods and services is around USD 2.4 billion. Services alone contribute USD 1.24 billion, mainly from travel and IT.

The India NZ FTA April 27 is expected to increase trade, expand business areas, and build stronger long-term economic relations.
