What Is Sanda?
Sanda is the combat discipline of wushu. It is sometimes referred to as Chinese boxing or Sanshou. Unlike taolu, which focuses on choreographed martial arts movements and forms, sanda involves direct competition between athletes.
Sanda competitions allow athletes to use techniques such as punches, kicks, throws and takedowns. These techniques are performed under specific competition rules designed to regulate contact and protect athletes.
The sport requires a combination of speed, strength, balance, timing and defensive skills. Athletes must react quickly to their opponents while also looking for opportunities to score points.
Roshibina’s Journey from Bronze to Silver
Roshibina Devi’s Asian Games journey began with a bronze medal in Jakarta in 2018. Her performance at the 2023 Hangzhou Games resulted in a silver medal.
At the 2026 Asian Games, she once again reached the final and secured another silver. Although she did not win the gold medal, the result extended her medal-winning record across three Asian Games editions.
The achievement also places her among India’s notable wushu athletes at the continental level.
