India Japan AI Data Pact Boosts Smart City Data Cooperation
India Japan AI Data Pact marks a new step in digital partnership between India and Japan. Both countries are working together to improve artificial intelligence use in urban planning and governance. This collaboration brings together Japan’s ONESTRUCTION Inc. and India’s DataKaveri Systems to unlock the value of construction data.

The India Japan AI Data Pact was formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding during the first Japan-India AI Strategic Dialogue. This platform was created to increase cooperation in AI and digital infrastructure. It shows a shared goal to build secure and trusted data systems for future cities.
Construction Data Has Huge Potential
The construction sector produces a large amount of data like building designs, utility systems, and maintenance records. However, most of this data is not used after projects are completed. It often stays locked in separate systems, limiting its benefits for city planning and development.

Integration of openBIM and IUDX Platform
Under the India Japan AI Data Pact, ONESTRUCTION’s openBIM platform will be connected with DataKaveri’s Intelligent Universal Data Exchange (IUDX). The openBIM system is based on IFC, a global standard for sharing construction data.
IUDX is already being used in 55 smart cities across India. It helps manage data related to transport, environment, utilities, and public services. This integration will allow better data sharing and smarter decision-making in urban systems.
Role of AI and Digital Twins in Cities
The India Japan AI Data Pact will support the use of AI in analysing construction data. Cities can use this data to create digital twins, which are virtual models of real urban areas. These models help in planning roads, utilities, and services more effectively.
The partnership also aims to explore new AI solutions and global funding opportunities. This can help expand the use of such systems in other countries and improve smart city development worldwide.
