The 12th Samvad Conclave has begun in Jamshedpur with vibrant traditional ceremonies, celebrating India’s tribal wisdom and cultural diversity. Supported by the Tata Steel Foundation, the event brings together communities, artists and custodians of indigenous knowledge from across the country.

Traditional Rituals Mark a Meaningful Beginning

Prayers and Ceremonial Practices

The inaugural ceremony featured prayers by the Ho, Munda, Santhal and Oraon tribes, accompanied by traditional instruments including Bhner, Sakua and Nagada. The ritual cleansing of the Akhra, performed as per Ho customs, symbolised purity, unity and respect for ancestral traditions. Elders were honoured with Jawa saplings, reflecting the conclave’s ecological and cultural values.

A Diverse Showcase of Tribal Art and Culture

This year’s edition presents 34 tribal art forms representing 18 states and 30 tribes. With 51 stalls at Gopal Maidan, the event offers a vibrant platform for traditional craftwork, performance arts, healing practices and community knowledge. Through live demonstrations and engaging interactions, the conclave highlights the depth of India’s tribal heritage.

A Community-Led Platform for Dialogue and Learning

The Samvad Conclave continues to be guided by community leadership. Artists, healers, cultural practitioners and changemakers participate in discussions on identity, sustainability and cultural continuity. Supported by the Tata Steel Foundation, the platform fosters intergenerational learning and strengthens community-driven development.
