The Sur Jyotsna Awards 2026 honoured renowned Hindustani vocalists Sumitra Guha and Pandit Laxman Krishnarao Pandit for their lifelong dedication to classical music. Their contribution has helped keep traditional music alive and inspired many young artists across the country.
Purpose of Sur Jyotsna Awards 2026
The awards were started in memory of Jyotsna Darda, founder of Lokmat Sakhi Manch. The main aim is to recognise talented musicians and support upcoming artists. Each year, performers from both vocal and instrumental categories are selected, creating a platform that encourages growth in Indian classical music.

Grand Ceremony in New Delhi
The Sur Jyotsna Awards 2026 ceremony was held at the Dr Ambedkar International Centre in New Delhi. The event was presented by Supreme Court judge Justice Sandeep Mehta. Popular singer Kailash Kher and his band Kailasa Live added charm to the event with their performances. Many well-known leaders attended, including Union ministers Ramdas Athawale, Shripad Naik, S P Singh Baghel, and former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad.

During the event, Lokmat Media Group Editorial Board Chairman Vijay Darda spoke about the deep emotional and spiritual value of music. He shared that Indian classical music connects people with peace and inner strength. He also remembered Jyotsna Darda’s passion for music, which led to the creation of this meaningful platform.
