Air Rifle Silver was won by India in the men’s 10m air rifle team event at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games 2026 on September 21. Rudrankksh Patil, Himanshu Dhillon and Parth Mane combined for a score of 1890.1 to finish second at the Aichi Prefectural General Shooting Gallery in Japan. China won the gold medal with a world-record score of 1899.0, while the Republic of Korea took bronze with 1884.2.

India Finishes Second in 10m Air Rifle

The Indian trio produced a strong performance in one of the early shooting events at the Asian Games. The three shooters’ scores were added together to determine the team result.

Rudrankksh Patil scored 631.8 points, Himanshu Dhillon recorded 630.0 points and Parth Mane contributed 628.3 points. Their combined score of 1890.1 placed India between China and South Korea in the final standings.

China’s team of Sheng Lihao, Ma Sihan and another member of the Chinese squad produced 1899.0 points. The score was recognised by the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) as a new world record for the men’s 10m air rifle team event.

Rudrankksh and Himanshu Reach Individual Final

The team competition was followed by the individual men’s 10m air rifle final on the same day. India also had two shooters in the individual medal round.

Himanshu Dhillon won the individual silver medal with a final score of 252.4, while Rudrankksh Patil secured bronze with 230.9. China’s Sheng Lihao won the individual gold medal with an Asian record of 254.2.

The double podium finish added to India’s results in the men’s rifle competition. It also meant that Dhillon and Patil finished among the leading individual shooters after their team event earlier in the day.

How the 10m Air Rifle Team Event Works

The 10m air rifle is a precision shooting discipline governed internationally by the ISSF. Athletes shoot at targets from a distance of 10 metres using air rifles.

In the team competition, three shooters represent each country. Their qualifying scores are combined to produce the team’s total. The highest combined score determines the gold-medal winner.

The event requires athletes to maintain accuracy over a large number of shots. Small differences in individual scores can have a significant effect on the final team ranking.

China Sets a New World Record

China’s performance was one of the major highlights of the competition. Its 1899.0-point total broke the previous men’s 10m air rifle team world record.

The record was followed by another strong performance from Sheng Lihao in the individual final. His score of 254.2 established a new Asian record in the individual event.

The results show the high level of competition in the rifle events at the Aichi-Nagoya Games, with very small margins separating several of the leading teams and athletes.

India’s Shooting Campaign at Aichi-Nagoya

Shooting has been an important part of India’s early medal results at the 2026 Asian Games. Before the men’s competition, India had already won silver in the women’s 10m air rifle team event.

The women’s team of Elavenil Valarivan, Sonam Uttam Maskar and Vidarsa Kochalumkal Vinod finished second behind China. China set a world record of 1904.2 in that event, while India scored 1898.0 and Japan took bronze with 1897.1.

The men’s team silver therefore added another shooting medal to India’s early results at the Games.

More Shooting Events Ahead

The shooting programme at Aichi-Nagoya includes rifle, pistol and shotgun events. The ISSF schedule lists competitions across these disciplines through the Games, with athletes competing in individual, team and mixed-team formats.

The 10m air rifle mixed team event followed the men’s competition on September 22. China again produced a record-setting performance, winning gold with 507.1 points. South Korea took silver with 502.9, Japan won bronze with 439.7, and India finished fourth with 376.3.

Further shooting competitions are scheduled throughout the Asian Games, including 10m air pistol, 50m rifle 3 positions, skeet, trap and 25m pistol events.

A Strong Start for Indian Shooters

The men’s 10m air rifle team silver added to India’s growing medal haul from the shooting range at Aichi-Nagoya. Patil, Dhillon and Mane’s 1890.1 points were enough to secure second place despite China’s record-breaking performance.

For Dhillon and Patil, the team medal was followed by individual medals in the men’s 10m air rifle final, giving both Indian shooters two podium finishes from the same day’s competition. The results have made the men’s air rifle events one of the notable parts of India’s early shooting campaign at the 2026 Asian Games.
