What is the Go East Initiative
The Go East Initiative Odisha stands for Government of Odisha – Eastern Investment Accelerator and Special Task Force. It is designed to make investment processes easier and faster.
A Special Task Force has been created to support investors and solve issues quickly. Along with this, a dedicated “Go East Cell” has been set up under Industrial Promotion and Investment Corporation of Odisha to handle project approvals and coordination.
This structure is expected to reduce delays and improve communication between businesses and the government.

Digital Support with Go Swift System
One of the key features of the initiative is the planned “Go Swift” digital module. This system will help track investment proposals and approvals in real time.
Digital platforms are becoming important in governance today, as they increase transparency and efficiency. With Go Swift, investors can monitor their applications and get faster updates.
This reflects the growing use of technology in government processes to support economic growth.
Go East Initiative Odisha is designed to boost industrial growth by attracting new investments and supporting businesses across the state. The initiative focuses on faster approvals, better infrastructure, and digital systems to improve ease of doing business. With strong policy support and targeted development in backward districts, Go East Initiative Odisha aims to create jobs and strengthen the region’s economy while making eastern India a key industrial hub.
Changes in Industrial Policy
The Odisha government is also planning updates to its Industrial Policy Resolution-2022. These changes aim to give special attention to underdeveloped districts.
Around 15 districts, including Balangir, Kalahandi, Nuapada, Kandhamal, Boudh, and Gajapati, are being placed under a priority category. These areas will receive extra support to attract industries, especially non-mineral-based sectors.
This move is important because it focuses on balanced development and aims to reduce regional inequality.
Investment Growth and Job Creation
Odisha has seen strong industrial growth in recent years. Since 2024, hundreds of projects have been approved with large investment value.
These projects are expected to create lakhs of job opportunities, which is important for the state’s economy. Many of these projects have already started physical work, showing real progress on the ground.
This growth highlights Odisha’s increasing importance as an investment destination in India.
Key Industrial Sectors in Odisha
Odisha is known for its rich natural resources, including iron ore and bauxite. These resources support industries like steel and aluminium.
At the same time, the state is now focusing on future-ready sectors such as electronics, semiconductors, and petrochemicals. The industrial hub at Paradip plays a major role in this development.
This mix of traditional and modern industries helps create a strong and diverse industrial base.
Role of Infrastructure and Connectivity
Infrastructure development is a key part of the Go East Initiative Odisha. Better roads, ports, and industrial parks are being developed to support industries.
Paradip port and other logistics networks are helping businesses move goods efficiently. Improved connectivity also makes it easier for companies to set up operations in the state.
Such developments are important for attracting both domestic and international investors.

Future Outlook for Eastern India
The Go East Initiative Odisha is part of a larger vision to promote growth in eastern India. The region has strong potential but has not been fully developed compared to other parts of the country.
With better policies, digital tools, and infrastructure, Odisha is trying to change this trend. The initiative also aligns with current national goals of boosting manufacturing and creating jobs.
As industries continue to grow, eastern India could become a major economic driver in the coming years.
