Keya Kumar Badugu Wins Golf Title
Keya Kumar Badugu won the Ladies title at the IGU Bio-Gen Rotary Southern India Golf Championship on 9 October 2026. Representing Delhi, she defeated Kolkata’s Anaahat Bindra in a playoff at the Karnataka Golf Association course in Bengaluru. Both golfers finished the 54-hole tournament at one-under-par 215, making a playoff necessary to decide the winner.
Keya Kumar Badugu Wins After a Playoff
The championship went down to the final stage after Badugu and Bindra produced matching totals over three rounds. Badugu recorded scores of 73, 71 and 71, while Bindra returned rounds of 70, 72 and 73.
Bindra had led the competition after the first two rounds. However, Badugu matched her total in the final round to force a playoff. Badugu then secured the title, completing an important victory in the national golf competition.
Priya Kumari finished third with a total of 220. Her rounds of 75, 70 and 75 left her five strokes behind the two leading golfers at the end of the scheduled tournament.
Final Results of the Championship
The Ladies competition featured three rounds of golf, with each round consisting of 18 holes. The results were based on the total number of strokes taken across all 54 holes.
Keya Kumar Badugu finished with scores of 73, 71 and 71 for a total of 215. Anaahat Bindra also recorded 215 after rounds of 70, 72 and 73. Priya Kumari completed the tournament with scores of 75, 70 and 75, giving her an aggregate of 220.
The playoff was required because Badugu and Bindra remained tied after the regular rounds. Playoffs are commonly used in golf to determine a winner when players finish with the same score, with the exact format depending on the tournament rules.

Three Consecutive Birdies Help Badugu
One of the notable moments in Keya Kumar Badugu‘s final round was her run of three consecutive birdies on the 15th, 16th and 17th holes. A birdie means completing a hole in one stroke fewer than its assigned par.
These scores helped her finish the final round with 71 strokes and draw level with Bindra. In a closely contested golf event, a short sequence of birdies can make a major difference to a player’s overall score.
Badugu’s performance across the three rounds kept her in contention despite Bindra’s early lead. Her ability to match the leader in the final round set up the playoff that decided the championship.
Understanding Golf Scores and Playoffs
Golf uses a stroke-play scoring system in many major tournaments. Players count every stroke taken on each hole, and the competitor with the lowest total wins. The course’s par represents the expected number of strokes for a skilled golfer to complete a hole or an entire round.
A score under par means a player used fewer strokes than the course’s par. For example, a player finishing one-under-par 215 over 54 holes has taken one stroke fewer than the combined par of the three rounds.
A 54-hole event consists of three standard 18-hole rounds. When two or more players finish level, a playoff may be held according to the competition’s rules to determine the champion.
Indian Golf Union and the Bengaluru Championship
The Indian Golf Union (IGU) supports competitive golf in India through tournaments and development activities. The IGU Bio-Gen Rotary Southern India Golf Championship includes competitions for women and junior girls, providing opportunities for players to compete at a recognised level.
The Karnataka Golf Association course in Bengaluru hosted the 2026 edition of the championship. The event brought together golfers competing for the Ladies title and highlighted the growing opportunities for women and young players in Indian golf.
Badugu’s victory adds another notable result to her competitive record. Her playoff win also showed how the outcome of a golf tournament can remain uncertain until the final holes and the deciding stage.
