History of the CRPF

The Central Reserve Police Force traces its roots back to 27 July 1939, when it was established as the Crown Representative’s Police during British rule in India.

After India gained independence, the force was reorganized under the Central Reserve Police Force Act, 1949, and officially became the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).

Over the decades, the organization has expanded in size, responsibilities, and operational capabilities. Today, it is one of the country’s largest security forces and plays a major role in maintaining peace and public safety.

What Is CRPF Raising Day?

CRPF Raising Day is the annual foundation day of the force.

Every year, the occasion is celebrated to remember the formation of the organization and to honour the dedication of thousands of personnel serving across India.

The celebrations include ceremonial parades, award presentations, cultural programmes, and community service activities. Senior government officials and security leaders also attend various events organized across the country.

The day provides an opportunity to appreciate the commitment of CRPF personnel who work in difficult and challenging conditions throughout the year.

The CRPF functions under the Ministry of Home Affairs and supports both the central and state governments in maintaining law and order.

2026 Celebrations and Special Events

Several important events were organized as part of the 2026 celebrations.

Earlier this year, the CRPF Raising Day Parade was held on 21 February 2026 at Sarusajai Stadium in Guwahati, Assam, with Union Home Minister Amit Shah attending as the Chief Guest.

Another important milestone was the Director General’s Parade, held on 19 February 2026 in Guwahati. It was the first time this prestigious event took place in the North East region, reflecting the growing importance of the area in national security and public administration.

Apart from ceremonial events, the CRPF also organized several public welfare programmes.

On 10 March 2026, Group Centre CRPF Bengaluru and Composite Hospital CRPF Bengaluru, in partnership with the Indian Red Cross Society, organized a mega blood donation camp. The initiative encouraged voluntary blood donation and highlighted the force’s commitment to social service beyond its security responsibilities.

Supporting National Security

The CRPF plays an important role in strengthening India’s internal security system.

It regularly supports state police forces whenever additional manpower is required during festivals, elections, large public gatherings, natural disasters, or law and order situations.

The force is also involved in protecting important infrastructure and government institutions across the country.

Its wide range of responsibilities makes it one of the most versatile security organizations in India.

Modern Challenges and Future Preparedness

As security challenges continue to evolve, the CRPF is increasingly adopting modern technology, advanced communication systems, surveillance equipment, and specialized training to improve its operational capabilities.

The force continues to upgrade its infrastructure and training methods to respond effectively to changing security needs, disaster management, and emergency situations.

With India’s growing focus on technology-driven policing and stronger internal security, the CRPF remains an important pillar in ensuring peace, stability, and public safety across the nation while continuing its long tradition of dedicated service.
