Semicon India 2025 was designed to accelerate the development of a robust, sustainable semiconductor ecosystem in India. The event highlighted key focus areas such as semiconductor fabrication plants (fabs), advanced packaging technologies, smart manufacturing practices, artificial intelligence applications, research and development strategies, and investment prospects. Furthermore, the event emphasized state-level policy implementation and international collaboration to fortify India’s semiconductor sector.
Prime Minister Modi’s Vision and Engagement
Prime Minister Narendra Modi formally inaugurated Semicon India 2025 and actively participated in the CEOs roundtable on 3rd September. His strategic vision is to establish India as a global semiconductor hub specializing in design, manufacturing, and technology advancement. The event symbolized the ‘Perform’ phase of India’s national semiconductor strategy, following the foundational ‘Reform’ and ‘Transform’ phases. This phase focuses on practical implementation and scaling of semiconductor projects across the nation.
Major Infrastructure and Projects
At Semicon India 2025, four cutting-edge semiconductor facilities were recently sanctioned, targeting specialized areas such as advanced packaging, silicon carbide production, discrete semiconductors, and 3D glass technology. The Micron facility, greenlit in 2023, is rapidly nearing completion. Significant fabrication plants are progressing in Gujarat (Dholera and Sanand) and Assam (Jagi Road), supported by comprehensive workforce training programs and logistics infrastructure to ensure seamless execution.
Policy Framework and Incentives
The event showcased India’s policy-driven incentives to stimulate semiconductor growth. The Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme is focused on broadening the MSME ecosystem by fostering upstream and downstream value chains. Meanwhile, the Design Linked Incentive (DLI) scheme encourages innovation in semiconductor design and IP creation. These policies aim to attract private sector investment and promote indigenous semiconductor companies, strengthening product development and intellectual property ownership.
Global Participation and Collaboration
Semicon India 2025 featured six country roundtable discussions and multiple country pavilions, underlining global cooperation. Over 50 leading technology companies shared valuable insights, reinforcing India’s emerging role in the global semiconductor landscape. Special sections dedicated to startups and skill development emphasized the critical role of innovation and workforce capability in the industry’s growth.
Evolution of Semicon India Conferences
Since its inception in 2022, Semicon India has evolved into a flagship platform for semiconductor innovation and policy dialogue. Previous editions took place in Bengaluru (2022), Gandhinagar (2023), and Greater Noida (2024). The conference series continues to highlight India’s technological progress and strategic policy frameworks aimed at fostering a globally competitive semiconductor industry.
