Shree Charani Reaches 50 T20I Wickets
Shree Charani has created a new milestone in Indian women’s cricket by becoming the fastest Indian bowler to take 50 wickets in T20I cricket. The left-arm spinner reached the landmark in her 29th international match on 10 September 2026, going past the previous Indian record held by men’s spinner Kuldeep Yadav, who reached 50 T20I wickets in 30 matches.
Charani achieved the milestone during India’s 40-run victory over Bangladesh in the Women’s Asia Cup semifinal in Dubai. Her achievement places her among the fastest bowlers in international women’s T20I cricket and adds another important record to India’s growing list of achievements in the format.
Shree Charani Takes Her 50th T20I Wicket
Shree Charani completed her 50-wicket milestone by dismissing Bangladesh opener Juairiya Ferdous during the sixth over of the innings. Ferdous was caught by Indian wicketkeeper-batter Richa Ghosh, giving Charani the wicket she needed to reach the landmark.
Charani finished the match with bowling figures of 1 wicket for 14 runs in four overs. She also bowled one maiden over, helping India maintain pressure on Bangladesh during the semifinal.
India eventually won the match by 40 runs, securing a strong result in the Women’s Asia Cup. Charani’s performance was part of an effective bowling effort by the Indian team as it defended its total and booked its place in the next stage of the tournament.
Fastest Indian Bowler to 50 T20I Wickets
The milestone is especially significant because Shree Charani has now become the fastest Indian bowler across men’s and women’s cricket to reach 50 T20I wickets.
Before Charani, the Indian record belonged to Kuldeep Yadav, who achieved 50 wickets in 30 T20I matches. Charani needed only 29 matches to reach the same number.
This means she has reached the landmark one match faster than Kuldeep. Her record highlights the impact she has made in a relatively short international career.
Charani has established herself as an important part of India’s T20I bowling attack. Her left-arm spin provides the team with a different bowling option, particularly during the middle overs when controlling the scoring rate can be important.
Among the Fastest Women’s T20I Bowlers
Shree Charani’s record also puts her among the fastest bowlers in the history of women’s T20I cricket.
She reached 50 wickets in 29 matches, making her the joint second-fastest bowler to achieve the milestone in women’s T20I cricket. She shares the position with Leigh Kasperek of New Zealand and Anisa Mohammed of the West Indies.
China’s Mengting Liu remains the fastest, having taken 50 wickets in just 28 matches.
Charani’s position alongside established international bowlers shows how quickly she has developed at the international level. Her record is also significant for Indian women’s cricket, where spin bowling has played an important role in the team’s success in T20 cricket.

Charani Among India’s Youngest to Reach 50 Wickets
The milestone came at a young age for Shree Charani. At 22 years and 37 days, she became the second-youngest Indian woman to reach 50 wickets in T20I cricket.
The record for the youngest Indian woman to reach the mark continues to belong to Radha Yadav, who achieved 50 T20I wickets at the age of 20 years and 334 days.
Charani’s achievement at 22 shows that she has quickly become an important international bowler. With more T20I matches ahead, she will now have an opportunity to build on her wicket tally and move higher among India’s leading T20I bowlers.
Strong Performance in the Women’s Asia Cup
The record came during an important match in the Women’s Asia Cup in Dubai. India faced Bangladesh in the semifinal, with a place in the final at stake.
India’s 40-run win gave the team a major boost in the tournament. The result also provided a strong platform for Indian players as they continue their preparations for upcoming international assignments.
For Charani, the semifinal was particularly memorable because her 50th wicket came during a winning performance. Her ability to bowl economically was also important, as she conceded only 14 runs from her four overs.
35 Wickets in a Calendar Year
Shree Charani has also matched another important Indian bowling record during the 2026 season. She has taken 35 T20I wickets in the calendar year, making her the joint-leading Indian woman in terms of wickets in a single year.
She has matched the record previously set by Poonam Yadav, who also took 35 wickets for India in a calendar year.
Reaching 35 wickets in one year shows how consistently Charani has performed throughout the season. Her regular appearances and ability to take wickets have made her an important part of India’s T20I setup.
A Major Milestone for Indian Women’s Cricket
Shree Charani’s latest achievement adds another major milestone to the progress of Indian women’s cricket. Reaching 50 T20I wickets in only 29 matches shows the impact she has made since entering international cricket.
Her record against Bangladesh also came at an important stage of the Women’s Asia Cup. With India continuing to compete in major international tournaments and prepare for future T20I assignments, Charani’s left-arm spin will remain an important option for the team.
At 22, Charani has already joined a group of leading women’s T20I bowlers and has now set a new benchmark for Indian bowlers in the format.
