Gujarat Renewable Energy Leader: Driving India’s Clean Energy Future

Gujarat Renewable Energy Leader driving India’s clean power growth with top solar, wind capacity, mega parks and 105 GW target by 2030.

Gujarat Renewable Energy Leader is more than just a phrase it reflects a powerful reality of how the state has positioned itself at the center of India’s green energy transformation. With bold planning, strong political will, and large-scale infrastructure development, Gujarat has emerged as the largest contributor to renewable energy capacity in the country. As of December 2025, Gujarat accounts for 16.50 percent of India’s total renewable energy capacity, reinforcing its status as a front-runner in clean and sustainable power generation.

This remarkable growth not only supports India’s climate commitments but also strengthens energy security, economic development, and job creation.

Gujarat at the Top of India’s Renewable Energy Map

Gujarat currently ranks first among all Indian states in total installed renewable energy capacity. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, the state has consistently expanded its renewable portfolio across multiple technologies.

The state also holds the top position in wind power capacity and stands second in solar power capacity nationwide. This balanced growth across wind, solar, hybrid, and off-grid systems highlights Gujarat’s diversified approach to clean energy development.

With an installed renewable power capacity of 42.583 GW, Gujarat has become a backbone of India’s clean energy ecosystem.

Strong Solar Power Growth Across the State

Solar energy forms the largest share of Gujarat’s renewable portfolio. The state has developed solar projects across different formats to ensure wide coverage and efficient generation.

Ground-mounted solar projects contribute 17,771.21 MW, forming the foundation of utility-scale solar power in Gujarat. Rooftop solar installations add another 6,412.80 MW, reflecting strong adoption by households, institutions, and businesses. Wind–solar hybrid projects contribute 1,172.38 MW, while off-grid and decentralized solar systems account for 173.01 MW.

Large solar parks have played a major role in this expansion. The Charanka Solar Park with 749 MW capacity, Radhanesda Solar Park with 700 MW, and Dholera Solar Park with 300 MW are among the state’s flagship projects. These parks not only produce clean electricity but also attract private investment and technology providers.

Khavda Mega Park: A Global Renewable Landmark

One of the most ambitious renewable energy projects in the world is taking shape in Gujarat’s Kutch district. The Khavda renewable energy park is planned with a massive capacity of 37.35 GW.

So far, 11.33 GW has already been commissioned, making it the world’s largest renewable energy park under development. When completed, Khavda alone will supply clean power to millions of homes and significantly reduce carbon emissions.

The scale of this project demonstrates Gujarat’s ability to execute mega infrastructure projects and lead global clean energy efforts.

Rooftop Solar Revolution in Gujarat

Gujarat is India’s leading state in rooftop solar installations. More than 1.1 million rooftop systems have been installed across urban and rural areas, generating 6,412.80 MW of power. This represents over 25 percent of India’s total rooftop solar capacity.

Key government programmes such as Surya Gujarat Scheme and PM Surya Ghar Yojana have encouraged households to install rooftop systems by offering financial support and simplified procedures.

Rooftop solar has empowered citizens to become energy producers, reduce electricity bills, and contribute directly to climate action.

Wind Power Leadership

Wind energy is another pillar of Gujarat’s renewable success. The state has an installed wind power capacity of 14,820.64 MW, ranking first in India.

Kutch district alone contributes nearly half of Gujarat’s wind capacity, thanks to its strong wind resources and large available land areas. Wind farms in coastal and desert regions provide stable and large-scale clean power generation.

The strong performance of wind energy complements solar power, helping maintain consistent electricity supply throughout the day and across seasons.

Hybrid and Off-Grid Solutions Expanding Access

Gujarat has also invested in wind–solar hybrid projects, which combine both technologies at a single location. This improves land use efficiency and stabilizes power output.

Off-grid renewable systems, including those under the PM KUSUM scheme, provide clean energy for agriculture and remote communities. These systems reduce dependence on diesel pumps and support sustainable farming practices.

Together, hybrid and off-grid solutions strengthen Gujarat’s inclusive clean energy approach.

Economic Growth and Employment Opportunities

The rapid growth of renewable energy has created significant employment in Gujarat. Officials estimate that around 2.37 lakh direct and indirect jobs have been generated through renewable energy projects.

Jobs span across manufacturing, construction, operations, maintenance, logistics, and research. Local communities benefit from new income sources, skill development, and infrastructure improvements.

Renewable energy has become a powerful engine for both environmental protection and economic development in the state.

Massive Pipeline of Ongoing Projects

Gujarat currently has 5,203 renewable energy projects under various stages of implementation. This strong project pipeline ensures continued capacity growth in the coming years.

The state government actively supports investors through transparent policies, fast approvals, and strong transmission infrastructure. These measures make Gujarat one of the most attractive destinations for renewable energy investment in India.

Vision for 2030 and Beyond

Gujarat has set an ambitious target of achieving 105 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030. This would represent about 20 percent of India’s planned 500 GW non-fossil fuel energy capacity.

Reaching this target will further strengthen India’s position as a global clean energy leader and help meet national and international climate commitments.

Powering a Sustainable Tomorrow with Gujarat Renewable Energy Leader

The rise of Gujarat Renewable Energy Leader reflects years of consistent policy support, technological adoption, and large-scale execution. From mega solar parks and massive wind farms to rooftop systems and hybrid projects, Gujarat has built a renewable ecosystem that touches every level of society.

As the state continues to expand its clean energy footprint, it offers a powerful model for other regions to follow proving that economic growth and environmental responsibility can move forward together.
