During the event, Prime Minister Modi highlighted the uniqueness of Assam’s cultural traditions and the significance of the Bodo community in the state’s rich heritage. He mentioned that no other Prime Minister has visited Assam as frequently as he has, reflecting his personal connection with the state and his dedication to promoting its culture.

He drew attention to the sustained efforts to showcase Assam’s art and traditions through large-scale cultural programs such as Bihu festivals, Jhumoir Binondini, and the Bodo Mahotsav held in New Delhi. Describing Bagurumba Dwhou as more than just a festival, he called it a tribute to Bodo traditions and a celebration of Assam’s living heritage, emphasizing the importance of preserving and promoting local art forms for future generations.

Peace, Recognition, and Cultural Revival

The Prime Minister highlighted several milestones achieved under the current government that have strengthened the cultural identity of Assam and the Bodo community. He spoke about the national recognition of Bihu, the inclusion of Charaideo Moidam in UNESCO’s World Heritage list, and the conferring of classical language status to Assamese.

Bodo has now been recognized as an associate official language of Assam, a move that honors the linguistic heritage of the community. Modi also noted the respect given to Bathou Dharma, with Bathou Puja declared a state holiday, and pointed to the installation of statues commemorating historical figures such as Lachit Borphukan and Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma. These steps, he said, signify the government’s commitment to preserving and promoting the rich cultural and religious traditions of Assam.

Development, Peace Accord, and Bodoland’s Future

Prime Minister Modi praised the 2020 Bodo Peace Accord, which he said restored trust, ended decades of conflict, and allowed thousands of youths to join mainstream development. The Peace Accord, he added, laid the foundation for economic growth, social stability, and cultural revival in Bodoland.

He highlighted key development initiatives in the region, including a ₹1,500 crore special package aimed at boosting infrastructure, healthcare, and education. New medical colleges in Kokrajhar and Tamulpur, along with nursing and paramedical institutes, are part of efforts to strengthen healthcare access. Improved road and rail connectivity under the Act East Policy was also cited as a major step toward regional integration and growth.

Prime Minister Modi emphasized the role of the youth in Bodoland’s transformation, calling them central to peace, cultural revival, and development. He noted that Assam and Bodoland are emerging as engines of growth, with cultural pride, economic progress, and educational opportunities moving hand in hand.

Celebrating Bagurumba and Bodo Traditions

The festival itself was a spectacular showcase of Bagurumba, the traditional Bodo folk dance that is both graceful and vibrant. Dancers dressed in colorful traditional attire performed in harmony, reflecting the deep connection between the community and nature. The festival also included music, handicrafts, and displays of local cuisine, highlighting the diversity and richness of Assam’s culture.

Prime Minister Modi called upon all citizens to appreciate and promote the arts and traditions of Assam, noting that cultural preservation strengthens national unity and pride.
