Bagalkot University, established in 2023, will hold its first convocation at Darbar Hall on the BLDE Association campus in Jamkhandi. The ceremony is scheduled for Friday at 11:30 a.m. This event is important as it celebrates the success of the university’s first batch of students who graduated in 2025.
The university currently has 72 affiliated colleges and offers postgraduate courses along with professional programs like B.Ed and BP.Ed. The convocation shows the institution’s progress in a short time.

Nambi Narayanan Doctorate Honor and Other Awardees
The highlight of the event is the Nambi Narayanan Doctorate Honor, given to S. Nambi Narayanan, a former scientist of Indian Space Research Organisation. He is known for his important work in cryogenic rocket technology and his contribution to India’s space missions.
Other recipients include Sri Gurumahanth Swami, who is recognised for his social and spiritual service, and Mahesh Bellad, honoured for his work in technology and philanthropy.
Presence of Dignitaries
The convocation will feature an address by Bheemaraya Metri, Director of Indian Institute of Management Nagpur. Several important dignitaries will attend, including Thawar Chand Gehlot, M. C. Sudhakar, and Vice-Chancellor Anand Deshpande.
Their presence shows the importance of the event for education in north Karnataka.

Student Achievements and Academic Growth
Around 1,691 students will receive their degrees during the ceremony, including 46 gold medal winners. This reflects the university’s commitment to academic excellence.
As a new institution, Bagalkot University is working to improve access to higher education in the region. It supports many colleges and offers a wide range of courses to students.
