Rangasamy Puducherry CM Sworn In for Fifth Term
N. Rangasamy took oath as the Chief Minister of Puducherry for the fifth time on 13 May 2026. The swearing-in ceremony was held at Lok Nivas in Puducherry, where Lieutenant Governor K. Kailashnathan administered the oath of office and secrecy. The new government marks the second consecutive term of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the Union Territory.

Rangasamy continues to lead the Union Territory under the parliamentary system followed in Puducherry. As a Union Territory with a legislative assembly, Puducherry has a Council of Ministers headed by the Chief Minister.
The appointment of the Chief Minister is made by the Lieutenant Governor under the Government of Union Territories Act, 1963. Rangasamy’s leadership remains important in Puducherry politics as he starts another term in office.
NDA Government in Puducherry
The National Democratic Alliance in Puducherry includes the All-India N.R. Congress, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), and Latchiya Jananayaga Katchi.
Along with Rangasamy, Malladi Krishna Rao from the All-India N.R. Congress and BJP leader A. Namassivayam also took oath as ministers. The alliance government is expected to continue its focus on development and administration in the Union Territory.

The ceremony took place in the presence of several political leaders and party members. Before the oath-taking event, the Central government notification appointing Rangasamy as Chief Minister and naming the ministers was officially read out.
Malladi Krishna Rao, who represents Yanam, took his oath in Telugu. BJP National President Nitin Nabin and senior BJP leader B. L. Santhosh attended the event on 13 May 2026.
Puducherry Cabinet Expansion Expected
The new Council of Ministers currently includes Rangasamy and two ministers. The six-member Cabinet is expected to be completed later with the appointment of three more ministers.
Puducherry remains one of the few Union Territories in India with a legislative assembly. The regions of Puducherry include Puducherry, Karaikal, Mahe, and Yanam.
