The Bajaj family, one of India’s oldest names in business philanthropy, ranked third with ₹446 crore in donations. Expanding Base of Philanthropic Leaders
One of the most encouraging aspects of the Hurun India Philanthropy List 2025 is the emergence of 12 new philanthropists, reflecting a widening base of socially conscious entrepreneurs and investors. This new generation of wealth creators recognizes that giving is not only an ethical duty but also a catalyst for equitable development.
With 191 philanthropists featured in this year’s list, India’s giving ecosystem appears more vibrant than ever. The top 10 donors together contributed ₹5,834 crore, accounting for more than half of the total donations, demonstrating the immense influence of large-scale philanthropy in driving national progress.
Philanthropy as a Driver of Nation-Building
Beyond the impressive numbers, the 2025 list highlights a broader shift in India’s approach to wealth and responsibility. The country’s top business families are increasingly investing in long-term, impact-driven philanthropy rather than one-time charitable gestures. Education, healthcare, women’s empowerment, and rural transformation remain the central themes, but there is also a growing emphasis on sustainability, art, and digital access.
India’s philanthropic evolution is being fuelled by both legacy institutions and emerging tech entrepreneurs who are bringing innovation and transparency to the sector. The rise in total donations also underscores the professionalization of philanthropy, with many corporations and families now establishing structured foundations, monitoring outcomes, and aligning their giving with national priorities such as Digital India, Skill India, and Swachh Bharat.

A Rising Spirit of Giving
As India’s wealth continues to grow, so does the spirit of generosity. The Hurun India Philanthropy List 2025 not only celebrates the nation’s biggest donors but also showcases a profound cultural transformation one where success is increasingly measured by social contribution alongside business achievement.
In an era marked by rapid technological change and widening inequality, the actions of these philanthropists stand as a reminder that prosperity carries a moral imperative. Their combined efforts are helping build a more equitable India one where opportunity, education, and health are within reach for all.
From the visionary leadership of Shiv Nadar to the enduring legacy of the Birlas, Bajajs, and Ambanis, and the new generation of socially responsible entrepreneurs, the message is clear: India’s wealth creators are redefining what it means to give.
As the nation looks ahead, the continuing rise in philanthropic engagement promises not just economic progress but also social renewal ensuring that India’s growth story remains as compassionate as it is ambitious.
