Focus Areas in India China SCO Talks

During the India China SCO Talks, both sides discussed key areas like security, trade, connectivity, and cultural exchanges. Officials from both countries reviewed cooperation within the SCO framework and agreed to continue regular consultations.

Growing Role of Multilateral Engagement

Apart from the SCO, both countries are also engaging through BRICS. China has supported India’s BRICS presidency, showing parallel diplomatic cooperation.

Narendra Modi had earlier visited China for the SCO summit, marking a key step in restoring political dialogue. Meanwhile, Wang Yi is expected to visit India soon, and Xi Jinping may attend the upcoming BRICS Summit in India later this year.

India’s Stand on Connectivity and Sovereignty

India continues to support connectivity projects under SCO only if they respect sovereignty and territorial integrity. This remains a core principle, especially regarding projects passing through disputed areas.

India has made it clear that cooperation must be based on mutual respect and trust. This approach shapes its engagement with China and other SCO members, ensuring that development and security go hand in hand.
