UAP Files Release Plan became a major topic in 2026 after the United States government started releasing classified and previously classified records related to Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP). Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena, or UAP, is the official term used by the United States government for strange objects or events seen in the sky, space, or under water that cannot be fully explained after investigation. The term replaced the older and more popular word UFO in many official reports.
Agencies Behind the UAP Files Release Plan
The Pentagon’s All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO) is leading the effort to collect and study UAP reports. In April 2026, the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy released several documents connected to UAP investigations.
NASA also joined the inter-agency effort to improve scientific research and transparency related to unexplained aerial events.
Pentagon and White House Release New Files
The Pentagon officially began releasing new UAP files on 8 May 2026. Earlier, on 29 April 2026, the White House released records dated between 2012 and 2026.
The documents included sensor data collected from Navy F/A-18 Super Hornets. Some files also mentioned a 2019 memorandum related to UAP crash retrieval programmes, which increased public interest worldwide.

AARO Expands Research and Data Collection
On 26 February 2026, AARO announced plans to standardise the collection and analysis of UAP reports. The office also promised closer cooperation with civilian researchers and academic experts.
This decision followed a workshop held in Washington, D.C. in August 2025. Around 40 participants from government departments, universities, and independent research groups attended the meeting to discuss future UAP research methods.
Trump Administration Orders Record Release
On 19 February 2026, President Donald Trump directed federal agencies to identify and release records connected to alien life, extraterrestrial research, and UAP investigations.
Later, on 30 April 2026, he stated that more classified UFO files would soon become public. Around the same period, the White House registered the domain names alien.gov and aliens.gov, which attracted strong attention online.
UAP Files Release Plan History
The United States has studied unexplained aerial phenomena for decades. Military pilots, advanced sensors, and intelligence agencies have all been involved in past investigations.
In March 2024, AARO released a historical review titled Report on the Historical Record of U.S. Government Involvement with Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP) Volume I. The report stated that there was no confirmed evidence of alien technology in government records.
