The Centre officially notified the appointment on April 29, 2026. Court Closes Case After Justice Grewal NCLT President Decision
The Delhi High Court closed a pending petition after the government’s decision. The court said the issue had become “infructuous” since a full-time president had been appointed. This ended the legal challenge related to the acting president’s role.
Dispute Over Acting President Role
The case had questioned the appointment of Bachu Venkat Balaram Das as acting president. The petitioner argued that the senior-most member should be chosen based on joining date. However, the Centre defended its stand by stating that the senior-most judicial member is usually appointed to such positions.
Role of NCLT in India
The National Company Law Tribunal is a quasi-judicial body that deals with company law matters and insolvency cases under the Companies Act, 2013. Its decisions affect businesses, investors, and corporate governance across the country.
Background of the Legal Matter
The petitioner, appointed as a technical member in October 2021, claimed seniority over the acting president. After moving between legal forums, including the Central Administrative Tribunal, the matter returned to the High Court. With the appointment of Justice Grewal, the issue has now been settled.
